The cuts hit offices within the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Maritime Administration (MARAD),and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).

like no, the vast majority of DoD personnel are not regularly operating semis and because FMCSA isn't suicidal they aren't letting anyone who drove a LMTV a couple times loose with a CDL

FMCSA regulations, commercial trucks must display the carriers legal name. They are contractors for Felon 47’s concentration camp.

Small but important thing that we should celebrate: bus drivers are no longer required to basically double as bus mechanics just to get a license.

So many would-be drivers said this was their number one barrier to entering the field; this could make a *huge* dent in the hiring crisis.

We filed a "friend of the court" brief in Lujan v. FMCSA on behalf of a coalition of local governments, urging the court to block this harmful policy.

Because safe roads depend on skilled drivers — no matter where they were born.

Here's my action of the day for anyone in Texas.

These are the agencies that the Commerce Committee, headed by your very own Teddy Cancun, oversees. He's the guy w/oversight authority over Sean Duffy's cuts to FAA (and failures to respond to plane crashes). Think of creative ways to lobby him!

Stop the ICE contractors:

Trucks and busses supporting ICE can be reported for "safety" violations. You just need the DOT number on the door.

Our LEVERAGE REDEMPTION episode covering this bit of fuckery was pitched and written by the very talented @daniellenicki.bsky.social . As always, out goal is to entertain AND horrify. https://www.freightwaves.com/news/fmcsa-advisory-panel-targets-predatory-leasing-contracts
FMCSA advisory panel targets predatory leasing contracts
The first meeting of FMCSA’s Truck Leasing Task Force has put lease-purchase agreements under more intense scrutiny.

Not good news, but there are over 2 million registered motor carriers in the US with the FMCSA.

If a car shipping company can't give you their FMCSA number in 10 seconds —

That's your answer.

...and DO NOT be lacking if you OTR! Keep you something in that truck, i'on GAF what the FMCSA say!

and it's not just NHTSA and FMCSA

We're a nation of regulatory consumer protection simulacrum

English-proficiency enforcement is already taking drivers off the road. FMCSA wants to put that consequence into regulation.

The proposal is open for comments through Oct. 9. Here’s what truckers need to know.

They're already required to do so. Both the CDL testing (which is in English) and the FMCSA reg's require English proficiency. This is just a shiny object to distract.

They are, but FMCSA / USDOT regulates interstate carriers.

Anyways the FAA runs safety in an industry with rising passenger numbers and the lowest death rate by mile and by trip of motorized vehicle in the country. If they’re in crisis what does that mean about FHWA/FMCSA/NHTSA?

I’m in my origin story. 🤡

What matters is whether they're bonded, insured, and FMCSA-verified before you hand over the keys.

Question for trucking people:

Do you think stronger FMCSA enforcement will actually improve the industry long term?

Or will the market eventually go right back to chaos again?
May 23, 2026 at 9:15 PM
Truckers are expected to know the rules. New York says the CDL rule costing it $73 million wasn’t even spelled out.

FMCSA says the state failed to fix improper non-domiciled licenses. New York says Washington is enforcing a requirement that doesn’t exist.

New York takes turn in CDL court case with FMCSA
FMCSA withheld funding from California and New York for not complying with its non-domiciled CDL rules. Both states have taken the agency to court.

I'd have to go back for details in the FMCSA, but I don't kmow that this meets the requirements for headlights?

(Mono ribbon headlights are legit a safety issue and not just ugly as shit).

Used to work in auto sales, and seeing how many people got scammed by brokers made me leave to build something different. Spent months pulling FMCSA data to launch verifycarcarrier.com. No pay-to-play, no fake reviews—just real data on 4,900+ brokers. Check it out and let me know what you think!
