It was a dark night of the soul for the Snollygoster when he realized he was out of snails. The competition for the World’s Best Chef was the next morning and he was running out of time to perfect his snail soup recipe.

Folktale Week: Night
"Come sit by the fire and let me tell you a tale."
I love old folktales because they show how oral storytelling traditions have survived over many generations.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved fairy tales. She was very dreamy, and she had a tiny golden fish named Magic.
They were so close that they even dreamed the same dreams.

Is #folktaleweek a thing in these parts? I only have time for one, so chose today's prompt - NIGHT!

Sepia silhouettes of two anthropomorphic bear characters wearing long cloaks. One waves farewell to the other in the foreground. The scene is framed by shapes of a dark, industrial machine. Cogs and giant pistons loom over the figures, rising up through mist and smog. Sepia silhouette of an anthropomorphic bear character wearing a long cloak, and carrying a wooden staff. The character is walking along a dirt path, seemingly towards a dark forest. In the far background an ominous industrial looking city rises out of smog. The scene is framed by shapes of a gnarly trees and suggestions of floating eyes. Sepia silhouette of an anthropomorphic bear character wearing a long cloak, and carrying a wooden staff. The character is cautiously passing through an entrance made of tangled trees and stone. A cave. In the far background an ominous industrial looking city rises out of smog. The scene is framed by shapes of a gnarly trees and shapes that could be floating eyes. Silhouette of an anthropomorphic bear character carrying a flaming torch. The character is holding the light up against a ceiling of stars. Are they in the sky or merely pinholes in the roof of the cave? Either way, night has fallen.

Hooray, it's #FolktaleWeek2025! My favorite art prompt event of the year.

The prompt today is NIGHT. I chose the story of the Lady & the Lantern, an old ghost story with several versions.

I painted, cut, and collaged an assortment of papers for this piece.
