Plagionotus detritus is a lesser known pollinator. The second video in #ForestStation introduces it to you. Protecting this beetle requires more than providing just flowers, as its larva develops in dead wood. #conservation #EUBiodiversity

#ForestStation 2/3: 🎥The beetle worth hearing

Plagionotus detritus produces a striking creaking sound when threatened. Its black-and-yellow colouring adds a second defence by resembling a hornet.

But the deeper lesson lies in its life cycle.

💡 Pollinator stewardship begins by recognising that pollinators do far more than pollinate

🪲Many forest pollinators spend most of their lives as larvae, hidden from flowers in dead wood or leaf litter.
