José Ángel Iribar and Inaxio Kortabarria brought an ikurrina - the Basque flag - onto the pitch during last night’s match between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad: it was a gesture recalling the one they made 50 years ago, following the fall of the Francoist dictatorship in #Spain.

Two images from a children's story Fill de Rojo (Son of a Red, 2007) I spotted in my local library by Joan Portell about a Catalan boy's experiences of war and the Franco regime. Top Republican prewar school, bottom Francoist school.

In Spain we have a meme that is “you just got PSOEd”, because the social-democrats ALWAYS disappoint and betray the working class, but boy, do I ever get happy every time they win the election instead of the Francoist ghouls of the Spanish far right.

So. An angry, violent, LOUDLY political, and ultimately tragic tale of the plight of women under patriarchy, and especially under the yoke of Francoist Fascism, designed to leave you feeling outraged at the injustice. Lucky for the director that right-wingers are shit at reading art.

Maybe a decade ago someone on the listserv asked for a lawyer who speaks Spanish and Alejandro responded with, "Spanish is a Francoist lie! I do however speak Castilian."

you know, as much as fascists like to boast about their strength, fascism doesn't have much staying power.

as far as I can tell, the fascist government that lasted the longest was the Estado Novo in Portugal, which lasted 41 years. Francoist Spain lasted 40. the communist USSR hung around for 74!

The Florida AG is a weird Francoist hard social conservative true believer despite his otherwise Groyper beliefs. He finds the Tates sickening. Just like he does the idea of women voting. Allies come along at weird times.

Analysis of Housing Policies During Franco's Regime and Their Long-Term Impact
The article discusses the historical context of housing policies under Franco's regime in Spain, focusing on the role of the National Institute of Housing and Official Protection. The author, Juan Manuel Grijalvo, examines how the regime addressed the severe housing crisis through various measures, including the prohibition of evictions and rent freezes, which were implemented despite the regime's authoritarian nature. The piece highlights the political maneuvering within the Francoist government, particularly the conflict between Minister Arrese and the Ministry of Finance (Hacienda) in 1960, which led to Arrese's resignation due to lack of funding for housing initiatives. The article also explores the long-term consequences of these policies, noting that while they successfully increased homeownership by subsidizing developers and offering soft loans and tax exemptions, they also fostered corruption and inflation. The author argues that the transition to democracy did not fundamentally change the housing system, as the underlying structures remained intact, leading to the current housing challenges in Spain. The commentary section includes reader responses that further discuss the complexities of Franco's housing policies and their legacy, emphasizing that the regime's approach to housing was both a success in the short term and a source of long-term problems.

6'5/10 #cine

Spain, the 1970s. Although Francoist ideology remains deeply entrenched in society, a group of young trailblazers and an ambitious promoter are about to change the history of women’s football.

Rewatching Tombs of the Blind Dead (1972) tonight. Pretty remarkable that this thing made it through the Francoist censors.

That's what Francoist Fascism was all about. It wasn't really Fascist in the Italian / German sense. It was really a movement to protect the Catholic Church and feudalism against the Communist revolution in Spain.

Two reputed Spanish historians are falsely cited by the (extreme) right-wing regional government (PP-VOX) of Extremadura to justify converting a Francoist cross into a monument of cultural interest.

Yea i think our distinction is between whether the KMT era was a far right authoritarian regime (which it was unquestionably) or also one that practiced apartheid (which they did not). The closest regime is francoist spain, who chiang idolized to a degree that he took the title generalissimo lmao

There's always one that says "I think tradition is important" and yeah it's important that my family gets together for Sunday dinner and has a catch up. That's a tradition, or you know, Christmas, Weddings etc.

I'm afraid that if I click 'agree' I'm coming across as some closet Francoist.
