The painters series. What should he paint for you?

"The Unfinished Vigil"
1629, by Lodewijk Ikweethetniet

The Flemish painter who left Antwerp after a quarrel with his guild and never quite found a patron who would keep him. He worked in the wake of Caravaggio: cheap rooms, borrowed linen, light stolen from a single high window.

Reclining Figure
1901, by Rafael von Ehrenfeld

A private commission by a young aristocrat who refused to be named. Chiaroscuro at the turn of the century: sculptural, intimate, and slightly dangerous.
