Remember that you can file your taxes for free using the IRS FreeFile program (irs.gov/freefile). If you have an AGI of less than $89k you have several options for free tax prep software, plus free state returns for some states.

If you want to verify who is an IRS Free File Alliance partner, all 8 of them (including FreeTaxUSA) are listed here along with the requirements for using each one.
Intuit used to be one of the partners but kept trying to trick people into using a paid version.

reminder that if you are a freelancer and have a 1099-K/MISC instead of a W-2 and need to fill a schedule C some websites might charge you extra but freetaxusa is in freefile and has not done me wrong once in 4 years

Never use H&R Block or TurboTax. They're a scam & waste of money. While they did kill DirectFile there are a few free options out there. FreeFile through the IRS's website, Free File Alliance, & FreeTaxUSA are online. You can also check VITA for in-person income based filing assistance.

As the artist that is also an accountant, with the depraved mammal targeting the IRS, and laying off workers and putting a freeze on hiring new hires, I extremely recommend filing your taxes ASAP

I used FreeFile this year! It was not only free but more streamlined than any paid tax service I've used.
The IRS announced that Free File will begin accepting individual tax returns on Jan. 10, 2025.
*THIS IS NOT THE START DATE FOR THE SEASON.*
Free File traditionally opens early and allows taxpayers to prepare & file now—they'll be processed when the season opens.
