The German "neun und neunzig" produces a prolonged resonant sound ideal for auscultation. The English "ninety-nine" is shorter and doesn't create the same acoustic effect. It's the resonance which which indicates if vocal fremitus is present - and vocal fremitus is indicative of consolidation.

#writingcommunity Logodaedalian's word of the day: Fremitus.

Serious question:

When is the last time you checked tactile fremitus on a real patient ?

What other obscure physical exam maneuvers from med school do you never use?

I spent about three times as much class time learning to assess tactile fremitus as I did learning about depression, and a grand total of 0 hours were spent discussing the social determinants of health.

“did you check tactile fremitus on that patient?”

How did POCUS get a label? I want one for tactile fremitus!

Na, was sagen die Lateinkolleg*innen hierzu?
"metus et horror comites mihi semper aderunt,
nox nomen mihi est, ululatus dentiumque fremitus praeeunt,
quieta me sequitur silentia sola via."

During lockdown, I listened to music loud and long as a replacement for missing touch. The physical vibrations, fremitus, kept me alive. — Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, elder Lenard Cohen Live, some rock and jazz favorites, and various Keatings . My fav home pod speakers in the kitchen touched me.
