Image: A large pond reflecting the dark blue sky, the branch of an old tree framing the upper half of the image. In the background, a large green painted conservatory. Beyond are the upper floors of Albertina Palace - now a museum - visible. ** The Emperor's Art-Nouveau Palm House Built under emperor Francis Joseph at the beginning of the 1900s, at the edge of what was then the emperor's private gardens - the Burggarten - now open to the public. * * "Between the Years" - In the Middle Ages, the old year ended on the 24th of December and the New Year was celebrated sometime between the 25th of December and the 6th of January, depending on the location, causing confusion about the true beginning of a new year. Finally, in 1691, Pope Innocent XII declared January First the official start of a New Year.
