A vertical close-up shot capturing a small, fan-shaped mushroom rising from a thick bed of lush green moss on a dim woodland floor. The underside of the cap is illuminated by warm, diffused light, highlighting fine ridges and gills that spread outward like an open fan. Fallen brown leaves and tangled twig needles frame the background in deep shadows, while soft, golden-green moss tufts fill the foreground, creating a quiet, earthy, and atmospheric woodland scene.

A low-angle, close-up shot capturing a colony of small brown mushrooms emerging among dry, crisp autumn leaves on the forest floor. In the foreground, three pale brown mushroom caps show delicate cracks along their edges, sheltered beneath curled beech leaves and fallen twigs. Slender, bright green blades of grass rise vertically behind them, while dozens of similar mushrooms recede into a soft, warm blur in the earthy background. The scene feels quiet, damp, and atmospheric, filled with warm russet, tan, and mossy tones.

A low-angle, close-up photograph of delicate, pale grey-brown bonnet mushrooms growing out of a lush, bright green bed of moss. The foremost mushroom has a conical, pleated umbrella cap with subtle fluting along its rim. Two smaller, rounded button caps cluster tightly beside it on slender translucent stems. Golden-brown pine needles rest across the moss. In the softly blurred background, autumnal leaf litter and the rounded shape of a larger, golden-brown woodland mushroom fade into soft earth tones under gentle, diffused natural light.

A close-up, eye-level photograph of a solitary, peach-tan mushroom rising from a dark, damp woodland floor. The smooth, rounded cap has a gentle depression in the centre holding a small pool of rainwater. Fallen, spiky brown holly leaves and pine needles surround the pale stem, interspersed with sprigs of deep green moss. The lighting is soft and moody, casting gentle shadows across the rich, decaying forest debris in the background.

If you could be any fungus for a day — not a fancy one, just the one that fits you best — which one would you be?

I think I'd be turkey tail. Modest. Medicinal. Good at breaking things down so new things can grow.

Your turn. 🍂
