38 years ago my brother desperately wanted the Lego Futuron Monorail set, but it cost over $100 (a princely sum in the day) and the dream went unfulfilled…until today. Found a set for his birthday and it felt good to give him that lost piece of our childhood.

I was lucky to be a kid for the transition from Classic Space to various subthemes. The Futuron monorail was the set I dreamed about for thirty years.

The “Classic Space” shelf for now. This will drastically changed when I buy either Galaxy Explorer or a few of the 2024 Space Sets. But I still kinda like it how it is at the moment.

24 Freeze. I loved a lot of Space themes growing up—Futuron, Blacktron, Space Police, M:Tron—but my favorite has always been Ice Planet 2002. I largely stuck to the minifig palette for this homage, but opted for cheaper skis that don't collide with the legs. #LEGO #Mechatober2025 #Mechatober

Wow. I also had the Blacktron Message Intercept Base and Futuron Polaris-1 Space Lab. Great sets.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to preserve those childhood memories.

First released in 1987, the Blacktron were the first "bad guys" introduced to LEGO Space. They, along with Futuron, were the first Space Factions created and replaced the Classic Spacemen.
