an image of a work in progress from a slightly obscured viewpoint. the sky sings golden, discordant motes of light hovering in umbral stillness. the great work ever continues, as it must, millennia of driven purpose a worthy sacrifice—even if the temptation of a century's repose has never sounded more divine. even through the dense canopy of yx'maja's trees, the burden of the oppressive sky presses slumped shoulders and gleaming epaulets ever closer to the forest floor. — “surely you bear burden enough for a moment's respite?” his lips draw taut, their cupid's bow pressed flat as a flutter of lavender hair lifts into his periphery. the best parts of him shared that shade—soul, hair, and eyes most of all, mischief all but assured when they locked with the pale opalescence of his most tiresome co-conspirator. a gilded finger traces the edge of teacup, twin peals of winsome laughter prickling along his scalp. the matter of light is one simply addressed, a snap of the fingers sending azure blooms fluttering on a zephyr unseen, melting into the ambient aether. 'tis more than enough to weave black silk into sumptuous ruffles, stretch them taut on ribs bowed into a fetching curve and pin them all to a shaft polished fine. the handle coils about his fingers with an ease, comfort long lost. he had thought the embellishments an unnecessary folly once, his protestations unheeded as a tawny hand first pressed the parasol into his own. — “there now. ‘tis a dapper match, through and through. it suits thy temperament perfectly.” the shade passes over him, and he looses a sigh as the simmer of light eases.

i don't get to write much for pleasure right now, but when i do, i've been trying to be as indulgent as possible

two lines of a larger work-in-progress. his gardens had given him a gift wrapped in flora, bound in ivy and wreathed in roses, and in sweetest welcome, they bid him come and feast. his lips are cold against their pulse.

a broken-hearted scholar.

an elevator pitch given in the style of a back-page blurb, laid over an image of Oz Relanah in portrait. the text, in white outlined in black, reads: "A wide-eyed scholar in love with the star and all Her stories—except their own. A series of little tragedies—of hearth, of heart, of home—convinces Oz Relanah that the only worth they possess is as the 'hero' perfected. They become willing fuel for crucible of war and the pyres of others, but what becomes of the martyr who survives their sacrifices?"

an excerpt from a dialogue between Feo Ul, Titania and Morpho, the keeper of Oz's scholar pact. FEO UL, TITANIA "We are agreed, villain, though I should take thine eyes! But spat not with Us, tha. Speak thy peace! What becomes of Our sweet sapling?" MORPHO "'Tis the breeding heat! My scholar, aflutter and atwitter, guts all twisty-like! Restless nights and squirming days! I have seen them all, aye, seen with my own witness! They prance like a spring mare until a stallion lifts their tail for a sennight." FEO UL, TITANIA "Oh! Like Anden's fluffy sheep, they are! Yet be they not built like the rams, snorty and cantankerous? Ill mood and cracked skulls until they lay upon the ewes' backs?" MORPHO "Ram of body, ewe of heart, my scholar. They burn within, not without."

an ellipsus snippet of a work in progress. nsfw for explicit sexual content. eventually, it is conquest, hunting for what makes them whine, a flush of pride going straight to his cock when a tumble of syllables sounds more like Limsa than Ishgard. when they finally sound like the Shroud, like moss in the branches and eyeshine from the tree line, he cannot help but press there again. every thrust invites him closer, calls him into their home, to a hearth that's had place for him longer than he wants to admit. he's usually more attentive than this. a teary warble makes him take notice. when the blood pounding in his ears quiets just enough, he recognizes his name. they are calling for him. crying for him. begging in unmoored swells for something unknown, unknowable. his lips soften their glossolalia to broken sighs. 'i have you,' a breathless promise licked into their panting mouth. when his name comes back in answer, purr humming in their throat, he follows in chase, hips first. he would hear it again.

shiver. their silence breaks with a serrated gasp, and ardor hums in them, a trembling response to the clarion call of a burnished edge. their muted senses narrow along its course—the seam of a thigh stretched taut, the bare nave of their body, the damp hollow of their spine. the grace is a new suffering, robbed of even stillness in its wake.
