See It On Your Wall "Madeline, Wall Street, NYC (B&W)" by Formento & Formento, 2013 The Art Scoop: A dramatic black-and-white photograph of a woman walking alone down the centre of a narrow Wall Street canyon, surrounded by towering, shadowed buildings. Wearing a striking diamond-patterned suit and high heels, she is sharply illuminated against the dark streetscape, while office workers pass along the pavements on either side. The strong contrast, deep perspective and solitary central figure give the scene a mysterious, romantic and cinematic quality.

Agreed.
G is for … Godwin If you’ve ever enjoyed my photographs of Hookland, Fay Godwin is partly to thank for it. One of England’s greatest photographers, she did not just capture landscape, she carved light till the invisible stories stored within the land were shown. She revealed the spectres of absence. Through her collaborations with writers, she more than anyone taught me the alchemical power in marriage of words and camera. Her landscapes haunt, often empty of people, but speaking of the ghost soil, of the traces, the cicatrix left behind. She did what all the best artists do – dealt in the business of revelation and giving new eyes to the world. If I can read the profound poetry of place in photography by Brian Stevens and Clive Nolan, it’s because she taught me the language. My eye that strives to sees the beauty in both ancient and bleak for Hookland is her lasting gift.
