I have a CD from back in the day with Propellor/Vampires on it. Never got too into VoT, but Propellor has the greatest opening track sequence EVER in all of Rock: “Over the Neptune” into “Mesh Gear Fox” into “Weed King”.

Hey! I am looking for people who moderate online spaces for girls and women in the Global Majority to discuss sexual and reproductive health—be it WhatsApp, Facebook groups, forums, or any social media pages. We are writing report with UNICEF on GBV-informed moderation and I want to talk to you!

A major problem with donor funding is its project-based faddishness

Of the 65 funding calls I'm tracking this month, 28 are for AI. AI in education, AI and GBV, AI and health. Donors are pivoting from core support to AI

But for grantees, you cannot do project work without core funding

Great lp, ahead of the game self produced indie lo fi wise, if it had come out about four years later they’d have been up there with GbV, Folk Implosion, etc. I do recall selling a few copies to our local Shoegaze bands…

Damn they’ve beat GBV

In a semi-related aside, I keep meaning to listen through all of the post-Please Be Honest GBV albums and make a best-of playlist. I don’t know how many there are—two dozen?—but I buy them, generally enjoy them, and simply do not have room in the GBV section of my brain to remember the best songs.

I’m a GBV fanatic, so I can’t help but hear the echoes, but I’ve been a big fan of yours for years now too. You have a gift.

If Taylor Swift was a regular woman who told a GBV expert of the string of “little things” Travis Kelce has done she would most likely be considered a high risk for DV, especially with CTE on the table.

Here’s the thing, though: Please Be Honest isn’t great. Despite being a GBV album, it feels less like a “GBV album” than many of Pollard’s solo records and side bands. He’s GBV’s central figure, he does everything on the album, and yet it doesn’t work nearly as well as the full band LPs to follow.

Yeah, it might be the 'Sproutiest' of all their albums actually. I remember talking to @ianfmartin.bsky.social about it a while ago and he called it the 'Another Green World' of Lo-Fi—high praise but certainly not inaccurate. He's a big advocate for the album, it might even be his fave GbV record?

Speak Kindly... over all the 90s GbV, Not in my Airforce, Waved Out and Kid Marine... Interesting...

It's my favourite of all his non-GbV albums I must say. Seems all the stranger you're not more of a fan of Earwig too...

One in three organisations tackling gender-based violence have shut down after foreign aid cuts

"It’s now easier to fund an AI model in a GBV program than it is to fund a women and girls safe space or clinical management of rape services"

How the gender-based violence community is compensating for loss in aid
Anti-violence work received little official development assistance prior to the cuts. Now, with that small amount diminished, the sector is “fighting back.”

It’s the one I return to most often (there are probably 10-20 GBV songs I reach for total)

During the field activities, @Kalkalhuman highlighted the importance of preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and protecting the rights of women and girls.
In partnership with @SIHANETWORK, KAHRDO continues to promote gender equality, protection, and access to justice.

Definitely not annoying as far as I'm concerned, especially if the comparison is GBV! I was late to party with them, got obsessed during lockdown when I was about a year into The Hydrogen Trees project & still trying to figure out how to work within the limitations of 4-track recording...

I'll never forget that March and March tried to hop a non existent morale chair protesting against the GBV in South Africa and claiming it was the fault of immigrants.

THEY ARE FASCISTS!

Yes, I've definitely noticed a similar emphasis in your songs - really cool stuff! I have Bee Thousand, which I really like (although it's been ages since I've listened). Somehow that's the only GbV album I ended up with. I'll definitely check out Vampires on Titus - thanks for the tip! I👋😀
