Lovely evening out at #GLW24 with #Leathermen from all over the world, especially my dining companions of @leatherrhys.bsky.social and co from Leathermen Cymru. Iechyd Da! 🏴🏴🏳️🌈🖤
P.S. This hotel still has terrible lighting!

![This is a remarkable artifact. I would say that, barring the initial prose quality, this Al proof is from The Book. Perhaps the first?
The basic proof structure is a technical variation on an idea which appears in [GLW24] (and interestingly reincarnated in Tao's sketch).
However, the key point is that it replaces the Mertens' prime product with the von Mangoldt weights: the former admits an immediate probabilistic interpretation as in [GLW24] but faces hard analytic issues. While the latter encodes an indirect probabilistic interpretation (via bz(n)) in a very slick construction, which dissolves the subsequent analytic issue into the fundamental identity
La|n 4(g) = log n.
The point was that the history of the problem would immediately pass from number theory to probability for conceptual clarity, but at a numerical cost. This construction appears quite non-obvious on the face of it, but it essentially "simulates" the probability (from a suitable perspective, while remaining number theoretic the whole proof.
I care deeply about this problem, and I've been thinking about it for the past 7 years. I'd frequently talk to Maynard about it in our meetings, and consulted over the years with several experts (Granville, Pomerance, Sound, Fox...) and others at Oxford and Stanford.
This problem was not a question of low-visibility per-se. Rather, it seems like a proof which becomes strikingly compact post-hoc, but the construction is quite special among many similar variations.
As you may know, this problem goes back to 1968 from Erdos-Sarkozy-Szemeredi, and it admits a nice conceptual interpretation:
In the case of all primitive sets, the primes are maximal. This new result implies that the k-almost primes are asymptotically maximal as k tends to infinity. I think this might lead to a shorter proof of my old result, and am quite certain this has implications to related conjectures of Erdos-Sarkozy-Szemeredi from the 1960s.
