alright, time for my Diwali day 4 thread, about one of my favorite parts of Hindu history and legend, the Govardhan Puja and Annakut ceremony!
So, the villagers went to Govardhan and set up the puja, and Indra came down to accept his offering. However, in the liturgy, Indra's name had been replaced by that of Govardhan itself, and the spirit of the mountain.

So let us celebrate the miracle of Govardhan, honor our community, feed and shelter those who lack, and realize that every action we do is for God and of God, whoever that God may be for you. Happy Diwali!

Indra descended to Govardhan, and begged for Krishna's forgiveness for his petulant actions, and Krishna granted him absolution. The Thunder King turned and went home to his palace in Heaven without any fanfare or even acknowledgement from the people.

So, let's lay the scene. In the Braj region of north central india, outside of the city of Mathura, along the banks of the Yamuna river, rests a mountain named Govardhan, and at its foot was a small village known as Vrindavan.

One of the fun things about Bhakti other than all the singing and dancing is arts & crafts it’s encouraged to do these things on the holidays like today is Govardhan Puja & painting a rock to represent Govardhan Hill is considered apart of spiritual life. Happy Govardhan Puja & Kartik month everyone

So! Vrindavan was a small village in the district of Braj, and the people there were simple farmers and herders. And every fall around harvest, they would go to Govardhan Mountain with the fruits of their field for a huge ceremony honoring Indra.
