This is a great article that explains the philosophical innovations behind NERSC’s new supercomputer: science is not just about batch jobs anymore. Draw the good ideas from AI infra advances into #HPC as possible. Definitely worth reading.

I also suggest installing the background application program C:YES DEAR to alleviate software augmentation.

In any case avoid excessive use of C:YES DEAR because ultimately you may have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the operating system will return to normal. The system will run smoothly as long as you take the blame for all the GPFs.

The acting CDC Director has no knowledge, training or experience in science/public health. Trump has no knowledge, training or experience in science/public health.

It wasn't a surprise to people close to the effort. I am just glad HPE had the faith to pick up the project.
I hope they align it with with their AI efforts to get it self-sustaining. As it stands, HPE already sells Lustre, VAST, Nimble, 3PAR; they recently laid off GPFS, DMF, CDS, ...

Would really love to see somebody do a comprehensive comparison of SeaweedFS, MooseFS, GPFS, Lustre, Ceph. There's so much variation in latency vs throughput, read() vs mmap, special file perf, lock guarantees, etc etc

probably fair to say DAOS is more forward-leaning than, say, GPFS or Lustre tho. and it probably is well aligned with a lot of AI workloads.

NERSC just announced that IBM and VAST have been selected as the storage providers for the upcoming Doudna #HPC system. Strong statement since NERSC had long invested in Lustre (scratch) and GPFS (community). Very cool to see NERSC not settling for the status quo.
