New aerospace lubricants for my car: GPL-102, GPL-205, EM-30L
November 3, 2026 at 5:07 PM
GPL-102 is lower-viscosity PFPE 105 for rubber seal conditioning, 205 grease is 105 with PTFE thickener for mechanical interfaces, 30L is for plastic like gears and interior buttons

do you think when they made AGPLv3 there was a specific guy with a name that starts with D they were thinking about

The GPL might spread a little too well. I've heard it's viral.
November 3, 2026 at 5:27 PM
"license" is implied by the license being a license. therefore i propose we rename the GPL to the GP and the AGPL to the AGP

Remember when they were vibe-cloning those GPL projects? This shows us that the test suite is the most important part of the codebase. Everything else can be cheaply regenerated.

It let me commit Horrible Crimes, like implementing part of the GPL for quaternions in VB.

@phaun.bsky.social GPL S8~Episode 9!

The visit to Trade Mountain came with highs and lows for our girls! Marilyn wowed with her scatting skills, Purrrse learned she's no longer the apple of the audience's eye, Henry got a lesson in gratitude, and it seems everyone's a little drunk on Cheri Wine!

On my point about the tests not being necessary for rewriting software: This is readline reimplemented against synthetic tests that the agent first created against the original readline. Basically a GPL to MIT laundromat. github.com/mitsuhiko/li...

In software the whole stance of FSF and every case they've been involved in regarding GPL infringement has been built on the assumption an infringing fork (not sharing modified source) maintains copyright and that the goal is compliance (releasing under GPL) which would be unnecessary if unprotected
November 3, 2026 at 5:38 PM
I mean Gpl is only bad when it's done to encourage paid options because it becomes anti-open-source
November 3, 2026 at 11:46 AM
somehow i forgot to license (almost) all my repos lmfao

fixing! gpl. may consider more permissive if someone makes a case.

@phaun.bsky.social Speaking of TCGP, we have some of our GPL MIO Models starring in a new set of exclusive items in the game! Featured is the lovely BOTOX (my personal fave), So Julia, Burlap Doll, Pancake, Plushiie, Miss Facade, and Labugbu in a more traditional gown with her fellow Cutiefly.

if this is real, it's a shitty way to do it. source ports of GPL Doom, recomps that won't run without your own ROM, fan decomps: that's how old games stay alive, mostly thanks to unpaid hobbyists. ban the app store knockoffs, sure. a hidden flag with no off switch that sweeps up the rest is lazy.

almost every open source license has attribution requirements that code from generative AI is infringing, not to mention the open source software with strong copylefts (like GPL and AGPL) that require equivalent licensing.

open source isn't a license to "do whatever"; there are actual requirements.

The GPL itself isn't inherently unreasonable. But the operational consequences of introducing GPL-licensed code can be wildly disproportionate to the technical value of that code, especially when you start to deal with some of the variants
