Glad to see published a new #GRAVIBONE paper, which is the first paper from @clementine-tetaert.bsky.social, co-1st with @camillebader.bsky.social, and with Charlene Verbeke, on ankle bone adaptation to heavy weight in proboscideans. Congrats!! Well done!

Very glad that our new #GRAVIBONE paper led by C. Etienne is out. It describes microanatomical adaptations in the forelimb long bones in rhinos (with high resolution scans of these large bones) & notably introduces our new approach for trabecular bone mapping. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

The final chapter of my PhD is out!!

What happens when graviportal taxa get dwarfed? We explore this in dwarf elephantids from the Mediterranean Sea, looking at the inner and outer anatomy of limb long bones. 🐘📄

Miniature giants: investigating limb long bone structure in dwarf proboscideans
Terrestrial vertebrates rely on their skeleton to provide structural support and allow the movement of the body. Heavy, graviportal taxa, such as extant elephants, exhibit numerous adaptive features ....
