#GRRC
It's becoming clear the LOL/Bryson were *wildly* over optimistic about the amount of support they'd get from loyalist paramilitaries, or the broader Orange Lodge network and the protestant community in Portadown.

Nor did they expect the cross community support for the GRRC protest.
The message from Dundalk’s own MARY WALLOPERS on the a Garvaghy Rd in Portadown is clear:

KEEP ‘ER LIT, DON’T TAKE SH1T!!! 🇮🇪✊🏼🇵🇸

Breandán Mac Cionnaigh, the current head of the GRRC, earlier told cameras (unsure of the media outlet) “the community will not tolerate Orange triumphalism like it did in the past.”

The media constantly frames the GRRC as being unreasonable they are not this is a thoroughly dishonest take
The most sickening thing about the reignited Drumcree dispute is how much the central players seem to be secretly enjoying it.

That’s a first: GitHub’s Advisory Database (incorrectly) flags Puppeteer as malware. github.com/github/advis... We are no longer able to publish new releases.

Are there any GitHub or Microsoft folks here who can help escalate this?

21 people died on the Garvaghy and Obins Roads during the “dispute”, all of which carried out to protect the Order. As the GRRC mentioned yesterday, on the scale of England’s population, this would make roughly 2,700 dead. Palestine Action was proscribed with a total of 0.

Gerry Carroll made a lot of good points, namely that the GRRC can’t exactly leave. This is where they live. This is where their homes are. This is where they raised their families, where they come back to after work. They shouldn’t be displaced or barricaded inside because of triumphalism.

Aaaaand I’m spent. I blacked out for most of the talk but people told me it was good. I’ve wanted to do this for other talks so I finally got around to it.

Slides, notes, & miscellaneous links available here for anyone curious.

The BelTel reports that the additional submissions made to the High Court by the GRRC, meant to be heard tomorrow, won’t be until Monday, while talks continue, with the hope of finding a way out of the impasse. Given how much the GRRC were willing to concede before, this is mind blowing

Thinking of the children burning alive in their homes. Thinking of the bar keeper that was killed. Thinking of the GRRC, founded by a Jesuit priest.

Thinking that in 1995, the sit down protest was also considered unlawful by the police, but was ultimately successful in stopping the march.

From the Parade Commission to the PSNI, the trust of the public, that wasn’t high to begin with, is eroding by the hour on the Garvaghy Road. We either stand by each other, or we stand by no one, but choices have to be made, and they have to be made quickly. The GRRC chose peace.

Here are the (alleged) terms of the document on the table at Hillsborough yesterday that the Orange Order refused: every single concession from the GRRC (including “acknowledgement it was wrong to block the road”) in exchange for the Order not to march.

The Order refused. This isn’t good faith.

And to be clear - this was a standoff, one that shouldn’t have happened, one that lasted too long, but there was no confrontation, and no violence. We can attribute that to the resolve of the GRRC and the support of everyone who was on the road. Where was this call for help during the pogroms?
The Republic barely understands us, nor does it want to. The English have never cared about us - my replies have proven this yesterday - nor do they want to. And yet both are also guarantors of the GFA. I don’t think further afield countries would even bother to step in. Just get up and work.

That was sarcasm, I think 5 days isn’t enough, but eventually they’ll have to go home. The GRRC won’t go anywhere, this *is* their home. Especially with Bryson involved, a solution would be too easy. The parallel legal challenge might be more promising

I look forward to the ‘rule of law’ prevailing next summer TUV Gaston was claiming that the GRRC were being ‘gaslit’ by SF/SDLP/Dissies etc and in addition should be beaten off the street and the march forced through

How many years since the Good Friday Agreement and we see, yet again, it was always about supremacy and keeping the "Croppies" in their place. But it's the 21st century. N.I. is a place of equals, however much some people have a problem with that. Catch yourselves on!

I shared a long thread a day or so ago in which I outlined that I was - pretty staunchly I believe - against international mediation, largely about consent. Well, it looks like the GRRC thinks it’s a good idea - and we will follow their lead
