#GTIN
A GTIN's last digit is arithmetic. It is computed from the digits before it.

Type one wrong and the sum fails. Google Shopping disapproves a wrong GTIN.

Not every product needs a GTIN.

Never assigned one to your own-label jar? Google takes brand plus [ MPN ] instead.

Assigned one? Send it, and send it right. GTINs are bought from GS1 UK. Never guess one: Google disapproves a guessed value.

A sorted array searches fast but inserts slowly. A linked list inserts fast but searches slowly. A balanced binary search tree does both in O(log n). Build one in Java.

Binary Search Tree in Java: Insert, Search, Delete and Traversal (with GTIN Example)
Build a binary search tree in Java with a real product lookup by GTIN: insert, search, delete, in-order traversal, why unbalanced trees get slow, and when to use TreeMap instead.

Only 4 of 76 product pages in the recent WooCommerce census included a GTIN or MPN in JSON‑LD, and just 2 of 93 robots.txt files blocked AI crawlers. Adding these tags improves AI‑shopping visibility. https://www.leymish.com/blog/woocommerce-ai-readiness-census.html

What is a GTIN? A Global Trade Item Number: GS1 US calls it a unique number used to identify your specific product or service. A SKU is strictly internal. #retail #barcodes General information, not legal or financial advice.

Good quick test. One catch: if a reviews app injects the schema with JavaScript, Ctrl+U won't show it. Google can usually still read it after rendering, but many AI crawlers don't run JS, so outputting gtin and aggregateRating server-side is the safer setup.

From November 1, EU customs requires product codes for every item in distance sales of imported goods up to €150: merchant ID, manufacturer ID and, if one exists, a GTIN.

Check: Shopify › Products › Bulk edit. Are SKU and Barcode filled?

The label is an illustration.

A quick check for any D2C store: open a product page, press Ctrl+U and search for "gtin" and "aggregateRating".

Not there? Google and AI shopping answers can't reliably match your product or show your stars.

GTINs (barcode numbers) are 14 digits long and fit comfortably into JavaScript’s int53. So I broke the data out into roughly evenly sized chunks ordered by their GTIN and numbered them 0 to n.
October 27, 2026 at 3:14 PM
Then I made an index that is literally just a list of ints, each int representing the maximum GTIN in the chunk associated with its position in the index array.

A barcode is not a product.

The same jacket gets a new GTIN for every market, pack size and packaging change, and its data ends up scattered across a dozen systems.

prodid gives every physical product one permanent, open identifier. 🧵

prodid — open identity for every physical product
prodid gives every physical product a permanent open identifier. GTIN, MPN and every other code resolve to it, and every fact is a claim attributed to its source.

How it works:

• Manufacturers publish their own data on their own domain: one JSON document and a feed
• Every GTIN, MPN and part number resolves to one opid
• Every fact is a claim: who said it, when, and whether they still stand behind it

qr codes and rfid tags are the 'next generation' level of evolution of GTIN/UPC barcodes. There are tertiary level and even deeper levels of development. It's anyone's "guess" whether any successor to rfid and qr will emerge but for now it's rfd and qr codes that all of man's power is given over to.
The Global Trade Item Number / Universal Product Code which is affixed to the outside of most every packaged product bought and sold in the world today has embedded within it that dastardly infernal number: 6 6 6 is baked into those barcodes in the form of "guard bars," which translate to qr codes.
All the world is going to be told to make an image that is the name and the number of man, and of man's beasts.

1 billion products. Find one by its GTIN. A linear scan needs up to a billion comparisons; a balanced binary search tree needs about 30. See how, in Java.

Do you need a UPC to sell on eBay or Amazon? Usually, yes.

Real UPCs come from GS1 US ($30 for one). Skip cheap resold numbers. No barcode? eBay has "Does not apply" and Amazon has a GTIN exemption.

Footwear store, one boot. Every size in every color has a barcode in the admin. The product schema has no gtin.

View source on your product page, find the ld+json block, search for gtin. Barcode filled and still no gtin? Your theme or an app is dropping it.
