Yeah, the gachafication is why I'm not playing it myself.
The game you described (sort of) is TCG Live, which is a simulator of the main game like Master Duel (format aside). It's not great but that's what it is. I don't think Pocket will be taking its place, they serve different folks together.

It's the "gachafication" of visual design. Making stuff that all looks similar save for outfits and hair colors is fine if your goal is to make characters who are essentially "collectibles" for a game or something, but when it comes to narratives in films and comics, it's kind of numbing.
