Reading the press release sounded like a late April Fools joke, but I think we all saw where Playtron were heading. After originally announcing PlaytronOS (now GameOS), their Linux-powered gaming system, they're now directly moving into crypto.

Playtron, the company attempting to build a Linux gaming distribution to take on Valve, Microsoft and others have released GameOS Alpha 3 with a bunch of new features. This includes a new fancy open source tool named GameLAB.

Playtron continue building up their PlaytronOS / GameOS (they don't seem to have settled properly on a name yet) alternative to SteamOS and Windows with a second Alpha release out now.

<p>Playtron, the company attempting to build a Linux gaming distribution to take on Valve, Microsoft and others have released GameOS Alpha 3 with a bunch of new features. Luke Short said it "revolves around community submissions" and that it's "similar to Lutris in how you can create custom installation scripts". In the short-term they want to get their fixes put back into protonfixes, so GE-Proton and the like can benefit from it directly. Long-term they want to "make all of our fixes easily accessible to everyone. Possibly with a conversion tool between different providers (protonfixes, Heroic Games Launcher, Lutris, Phoenicis, etc.)".</p> <p>The only device currently planned to ship with it is the weird crypto device <a href="https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/04/the-first-handheld-to-use-playtronos-is-some-web3-thing-the-suiplay0x1/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">SuiPlay0x1</a>, but there's hints that something else may be on the table soon. Playtron announces plans to start 'first stableCoin built for gaming called a match dollar. The token will be built on the SUI network and drives M0 and the bridge. According to an announcement PER PLATFORT STABLECOIN M0, DOLLAR GAMES WILL BE A Stablecoin Designed for facilitating trade and award via the company's main operating system, Gameos, as well as other ecosystems of the game.
