Unsurprisingly, Sega’s Tetris was one of the most profitable titles in the company’s history, as well as a game of rare longevity, as it was still ranked amongst the 10 most profitable games of the year in Japanese arcades in 1997.

Dynamica 50 was a motion-controlled arcade cabinet by California-based company Holoplex, location tested in 2000. This was a standalone version of their "Combatica" system, best known for powering the "Virtual Arena" setups at GameWorks locations in America.

Preservation was not kind to this, nor most Towa Japan stuff. Here's a translated excerpt from a Japanese magazine called Game Machine. Not even found on the archive, but an independent site: onitama.tv/gamemachine/...

A cabinet was a mere 1.67 million yen. That's just 12700 Euro today!

Satoshi Tajiri, Shikanosuke Ochi, and Yochi Maekawa pose as part of Sega's 81 "TV Game Idea Award" contest.

Tajiri pitched the idea Spring Stranger, while Maekawa pitched Super Locomotive, the first Sega System 1 game.

Ochi was head of engineering for Sega; one of their most crucial game creators.

From what I have understood they were produced for publications and distribution at trade shows and used for ads / promotions with current arcade operators. Magazines like 'The Game Machine' would print regular issues featuring new promotional artwork and photos onitama.tv/gamemachine/...

For arcade information, you can find Gamest magazines in Archive pretty easily, but I like to utilize Game Machine because they cover the early years of Japanese arcades, including pre-video games as we know them years, and focuses more on the industry side. Full archive:

As with much culture from Japan before its devastation, much has been lost.

Accolades must go to the work of Masumi Akagi - who ran the coin-op industry journal Game Machine from 1974 - and @onionsoft.net who helped make the publication available!

March 29th, 1990: CAPCOM unveiled a new 8-floor building for development, but it would also be utilized as a main/head office and then later on as a sales office. Were any SFC/SNES games developed here? A ceremony was held and president Kenzo Tsujimoto would move his office into the building. 4/5
