here's how you remove the AI from the latest Firefox update

So if the sound of that leaves your mouth tasting of tar, here's what you want to do: In the url bar, type in about:config It'll give you a big scary warning page that you might poke holes in your browser. Good. You want to do that. Click continue. One by one, you're going to need to put each of these into the search bar in the page, not up top: browser.ml.enable browser.ml.chat.enabled extensions.ml.enabled browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.userEnabled Each of these are gonna have a lil toggle icon on the right hand side that looks like a funky double-ended arrow. Click that and the value next to it should change to false. It all auto saves as you go. Some of these might already be set to false by default and that's peachy. The next best thing you can do for yourself is to set your default search engine to udm14 or Qwant, but for now, we're just tidying the garden a lil bit.

remembered the hard way that firefox mobile has about:config disabled but googling it again means i learned about

chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml

where you can set general.aboutConfig.enable to true and then your about:config works again 💖

here's an updated guide on how to remove all of the AI from Firefox
mckitterick (ADE.............- Yesterday 601 irritatingly, the list of Al settings in Firefox has grown. to kill them all as of today (Nov 20, 2026), go into about:config and set all of these to false (yes, you'll have to copy and paste them one by one): browser.ml.enable browser.ml.chat.enabled browser.ml.chat.menu browser.ml.chat.page • browser.ml.chat.page.footerBadge • browser.ml.chat.page.menuBadge browser.ml.link Preview.enabled browser.ml.pageAssist.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.userEnabled extensions.ml.enabled browser.search.visualSearch.featureGate in addition to nuking Al, it'll also speed up your browsing

Pour infos, sur mobile l'option about:config ne marche pas par défaut, j'ai trouvé une "astuce" sur un short ytb, tapez :
chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml
Puis cherchez dans les options aboutconfig pour l'autoriser
Pour l'instant l'option IA n'est pas sur firefox android mais on sait jamais

If you are on android they disable the about:config by default. Use chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml to access the same thing. You can enable aboutconfig there to use the normal shortcut.

Use the URL chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml to get to the menu but if you copy and paste from this post it may strip off the chrome:// so you'll have to manually type it.

Then search for the settings in the original post, not all will be available on Android

Mira, esto no lo sabía yo. En Firefox para móvil es posible acceder al about:config sin necesidad de instalar versiones nightly, que por definición son menos seguras. Basta con ir a:

chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml

(Como mínimo, ahí yo desactivaría browser.ml.enable, que es mierda de LLM).

PSA: On stock mobile Firefox, you can bypass Mozilla's lockout of about:config using the alternate URL:

chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml

Note that "chrome" here has nothing to do with the Google browser. Google stole the name from what was previously the Mozilla-internal name for […]

You can get to about:config by inputting chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml

You'll have to type "chrome://" manually into the address bar for some reason... some kind of security crap

Firefox for Android users can enable about:config by going to chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml and set general.aboutConfig.enable to true.

I don't see the chatbot setting (yet?), but you can toggle extensions.ml.enabled to disable use of the Firefox AI Platform API.

about:config doesn't work on mobile though the address is chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml
there is a setting in there to enable about:config but it turns itself back off if you restart the browser so what's the point lol

All I can say is it made it into GeckoView in v116, I'm not sure what it situation looks like in Bugzilla though.
