Very exciting to see these new ultra portable, low cost tests available. It's especially notable given it's close to the 3 year anniversary of when Danaher promised us an annual audit of their too-expensive GeneXpert tests. (They have never given us an audit).

Moving it out of professional lab? I disagree. There still needs to be a world of sample labelling, tracking (for add-on testing), processing care, quality controls, result reporting and recording all of that. But these are great for fast TAT hospital labs.

Freddy Mercury died of AIDS 33 years ago today. With modern medical technology, he likely would have lived. Never forget how much progress against major infectious disease has been made in a short time. We are at risk now of rolling back much of that progress.

GeneXpert MTB/RIF can detect tuberculosis in stool. It's a huge win for diagnosing babies, who often can't produce enough sputum for testing. It's more important than ever that #Danaher makes accurate rapid testing accessible to all by dropping the price of all GeneXpert tests to $5. #TimeFor5
