The An Post/ Geodirectory marketing database, which assigns social class ratings to the whole population and then sells that to advertisers, is currently under investigation by the DPC after I lodged a lengthy complaint.

Maybe "encourage" developers to use or lose properties that already exist, instead of dropping living standards.

Four years after GeoDirectory failed the most basic tests of any part of the GDPR (legal basis for processing data on everyone in the country, ability to answer a basic SAR request, knowing what a Data Controller is) the DPC still hasn’t actually acted on my complaint.

There are over 30,000 properties listed on AirBnB in Ireland, and GeoDirectory reckons there are 19,821 vacant or derelict homes. Some easy wins for anyone who prioritises humans over profit margins.

There are currently almost 20,000 derelict residential properties in Ireland, and councils are trying to turn some of them back into housing by acquiring them via Compulsorily Purchase Orders.

There were 82,031 residential properties recorded as vacant in June 2024, many of them allowed to slip into dereliction. It's mind boggling that this has been allowed to happen. A #dereliction of duty by our local authorities in a #housingcrisis in #ireland #derelictireland

I'll just note the list itself is a joke. There's a building unoccupied 15 years on our road, the roof has collapsed, and it's not on the register.
