did they geofence it?

Note that DOJ relied on a geofence to chase down the Cities Church protesters, then fucked up the analysis of it.
JUST IN: At #SCOTUS, DOJ defends use of geofence search warrants, says individuals have no 4th Amendment privacy interest in location data "that are sufficiently short-term that they reveal little, if anything, about the patterns of his life." Doc: www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/25...

Rather than fixing the critical safety defects in the millions of Full Self-Driving Teslas currently endangering America's roads, Tesla's engineering team has been busy mapping a small Austin geofence.

Second (but *not* last) #SCOTUS ruling is in Chatire (the geofence warrants case).

For a 6-3 majority (with Thomas, Alito, and Barrett dissenting), Justice Kagan holds that a geofence warrant *is* a Fourth Amendment search, but the Court remands to see if the Fourth Amendment was actually violated:

BREAKING: In a landmark 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court rules that "geofence warrants," which allow law enforcement to collect sweeping smartphone location data over a broad area, constitute an "unreasonable search" and violate the Fourth Amendment.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court just ruled that the Fourth Amendment applies to police use of overbroad "geofence warrants" to search for and locate unknown numbers of people in a large geographical area.

This win reinforces that we don't lose our right to privacy simply because we use a cell phone.

Geofence the cars out.
E-scooters will no longer be able to be used on a busy stretch of Sheridan Road in Edgewater due to safety concerns, the city said.

Edgewater's alderwoman is working to get e-bikes restricted in the area, too. blockclubchi.co/3RspHgx

So Supreme Court is going to hear a challenge to Google GeoFences.

That could seriously fuck up the Pipe Bomber case. While the geofences used to ID him were obtained weeks after Jan6, the WARRANT relying on them was obtained after some Jan6 precedents.

A free press can’t exist in a surveillance state.

Geofence warrants allow the government to collect location data on everyone, including journalists and whistleblowers.

A Supreme Court case could make it worse.

Here’s how.
Supreme Court could greenlight geofence warrants
A new case may legalize suspicionless mass surveillance of journalists and whistleblowers

What? SCOTUS rulling to protect citizens' phone privacy?

Anyways, FLOCK cameras should also require warrants.

NEW: We filed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to ban police from using geofence warrants, which forces tech companies to hand over location data for everyone in a certain area during a certain time.

These invasive searches ensnare innocent people and violate our Fourth Amendment rights.

BIG IN THE 4A WORLD: The Supreme Court has granted cert in Chatrie, the geofence warrant case, to decide the following Q: "Whether the execution of the geofence warrant violated the Fourth Amendment." (I assume this includes both whether a "search" happened and whether the warrant was lawful.)
