But to date, Waymo, Tesla, Zoox, et al. have ignored rural areas in favor of cities.
In their defense, rural deployments are hard:
- Longer trips ➡️ Lower robotaxi utilization
- Fewer lane markers and curbs
- Spotty cell service
- Different vehicles like Amish buggies, harvesters, etc

DJI didn't remove geofencing restrictions on their drones back in January as a fuck-you to the U.S. over the security audit.
The FAA has never required drone makers to do geofencing: DJI stopped because they preferred to place responsibility for enforcement w/ U.S. regulators.

The government will attempt to find her using geofencing. I hope there is a way to keep her safe. I assume she has a lawyer who has told DHS that contact should only go through her attorney.

The main thing to remember is that U.S. regulators and those in the UK and Europe COULD have mandated that drone manufacturers maintain geofencing systems - but they never have. DJI voluntarily introduced geofencing back in 2013.
