The Gestapo didn't have to watch everyone: your friends, neighbors, co-workers, even family members had the power to destroy you.
Much of the terror came from not knowing who was watching or listening.

The Gestapo didn't have to watch everyone: your friends, neighbors, co-workers, even family members had the power to destroy you.

I actually agree that calling ICE the Gestapo is inaccurate, because the Gestapo was far more sophisticated.
ICE is much more like the Sturmabteilung (SA): violent, racist, fat, poorly educated and undisciplined thugs too stupid to do anything other than random street-level terror.
