The only street trees I know where males are deliberately planted to avoid fruit are ginkos. You do not want ginko fruit rotting on the sidewalk, although it might start to smell better if it rots.
It looks like I need to write a blog post about how sex works in fruit trees.

Yes! Ginkos are great, but we need biodiversity! Plant oak, hickory, pecan, cherry, persimmon, magnolia, tulip tree, sassafras, etc —you know, the trees that used to grow all over here before we logged them all

There was a Chinese professor at the local horticulture department for several years. He had mapped out all the local female ginkos to periodically collect from.
Each tree was like a different variety of apples, the seed size/quality/etc varied a lot.
