I passed actress Geraldine Plunkett. She seemed remarkably well preserved. Turns out she was only 11 years older than her daughter on Glenroe. This was dealt with in Ep1 by Dinny: "Are you coddin' me Mary, a little slip of a thing like yourself with a grown up daughter?"

In Ireland it was the theme to Glenroe that said 'it's too late now' to teens.

Am I to watch this now and still think it’s a succession issue but with the Glenroe music?

Someone once quipped that Irish summary starts with the Eurovision and ends with the Rose of Tralee.
Put the latter alongside the return of the rain and the back to school vibes and you might as well have Glenroe on IMAX.

Byrne did do stuff in British comedy though.che is in the Punch and Judy Man and the film of forgotten ITV sitcom Never mind the Quality feel the width with Joe Lynch, another Irish variety legend (and star of RTE soap Glenroe) whose fame in the UK is nothing, limited to Chorlton and the Wheelies.

If he hadn't died in 1982 he pro ably would have ended up in Glenroe or Fair City like his daughter Catherine did.
My grandad definitely would have known him considering he did several folms at Ardmore

Byrne was a big variety comic of the Theatre Royal, alongside yer Noel Purcell a d Josef Locke. He did the Late Late Show a few times. and i believe by SW, he seems mainly semi retired and living back here. his previous screen credit is an RTE play with various Glenroe actors.

On a very local level, The Back Doors - a truly excellent Doors cover band from the perfect Irish equivalent of glamorous L.A., i.e. Kilcoole a.k.a. Glenroe - ensured a deep love of The Doors in north Wicklow and Dublin (played Midnight at the Olympia couple times) throughout the late 90s/early 00s.
