Je me souviens que quand j'étais gosse, j'ai lu que ça faisait partie de la famille des loirs et des lérots.
Et je vois que la génétique n'a pas trop changé les choses.
Mais il y a une convergence évolutive dans la mignonitude! 🥰

Explain your @:

I like Percy Shelly and I can’t spell

It’s just his pen name Glirastes (gliridae/dormouse and erastes/lover of) except I’m apparently illiterate and only realized years later that I’ve been spelling it wrong
Explain your @:

i needed a throwaway username and i chose a naruto character, suigetsu was taken so i added vowels, i committed and now its me ig 👍

bonus points bc i like water and languages, and sui; 水 is japanese for water. if you're curious, getsu; 月 means moon
Explain your @:

Wyntersong is the title of that comic I still haven't released! 😶💦

Also the name of the bakery and tea room that it's primarily set in, named for Wynter, my main OC and best girl.

It was kenziewebb.bsky.social before I grabbed the domain, no explanation needed I hope? 😂

Gliridae - Dormice, Hazel Mice

"Most dormice species are arboreal (tree-dwelling) and spend most of their time in trees. Species found in colder climates may hibernate in the winter. Dormice eat fruit, nuts, seeds, invertebrates, birds, and eggs."

1/3 – #MammalMonday: European dormouse (𝘎𝘭𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴 )

It is Europe’s largest dormouse, a member of the family Gliridae. It occupies mature deciduous and mixed forests rich in mast-producing trees. Its life history is tightly linked to high-calorie seeds that fuel reproduction and long hibernation.

First evidence of predation by the edible dormouse, Glis glis (Rodentia: Gliridae) on adult European stag beetle, Lucanus cervus (Coleoptera: Lucanidae)
The European stag beetle, Lucanus cervus, is a flagship saproxylic species in Europe, listed in Annex II of the Habitats Directive and threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation. This study documents the first recorded arboreal predation of adult L. cervus by the edible dormouse, Glis glis, based on three years of field observations in northern Italy. Predation occurred mainly in the canopy shortly after sunset, coinciding with peak beetle flight activity and higher G. glis abundance. Predation rates appeared low, and morphometric analyses of mandible and elytron length revealed no significant size differences between predated and non-predated beetles, suggesting no size-selective predation. Documenting this novel predator–prey interaction broadens our understanding of trophic dynamics and behaviour, while underscoring the need to consider native predators in studies of wildlife ecology in European forests.
