I've been making online character builders for all of my games since Solipstry (2017), but the one for Glorydays looks the best. Nailing the early 2000s website look was fun, and easier than expected!

Glorydays is my game of shapeshifting aliens infiltrating a high school in the southwestern united states to learn about human culture while you decide whether to conquer the planet.

It takes place on the set of a CW teen drama, where each session is an episode as you vie for renewal of season 2.

Rereading old blog posts, and Grognardia reminded me of this essential truth: "don't design rules with bad players in mind. Any rule, no matter how well written, can and will be abused by players looking to find a way to take advantage of a situation."

#glorydays

Broken Rooms being set in 2007 is such a load bearing piece of the atmosphere that also lends itself to a lot of jokes. This was a major factor in me setting Glorydays in 2003.

Alexander the Fine @alexrineh.art · Nov 14

Broken Rooms. Admittedly, this is the hardest one for you to be playing *right now*, as it's miraculously out of print, but I think it's up on Drivethru

The year is 2007. The world has split into 12 realities, all of them doomed. You, like a very small percent of people, have a gene that allows you to travel between them. Oh, you also have experienced severe trauma, which gave you super powers, and the world-traveling can only happen at places of high emotion.

Why I love it
Broken Rooms has a d12 dice mechanic that matches its lore (13s are crits, and appear everywhere in the world). The setting is miserable and familiar, the quests short in nature and mirroring the heroe’s journey (easy to go down, hard to climb back “up” to the more stable worlds), and over the source of a campaign you grow more powerful and also less able to relate to those around you. You are constantly seeing suffering and losing your ability to connect as a result of it.

I’m a sucker for a game with an ending, and this is a game about getting too powerful and retiring to heaven (literally — once you attune to all 13 worlds, you’re done). Each world gives a different power, and you sort of end up filling out a heist squad as you play. Someone can open up a rift? Someone else can kill the lights? Let’s roll.

Glorydays is a CW-style teen drama where you play actors in a show about shapeshifting aliens who have infiltrated the local high school. Turn into animals, and decide whether to save the world or conquer it, all while making it to your classes and wrangling teenage drama.
