In the 90s it reached a peak with the glossies (Spin, RS, Vibe, Alternative Press, etc.) competing for covers and other exclusives. I think there was MORE pressure then than now! You could be banned from press lists for shows too, it happened all the time. Publicists controlled who heard advances

there is a version of being the Great Author where i am serious and all my photos are black & white glossies of me holding my head which contains my Powerful Brain and it would probably be good for my career and the longevity/respectability of my art but it sounds so exhausting i just cant

i wonder if people under a certain age know how much limitless free information used to be readily available online about anything you could think of, anything at all, you could start reading about a niche subject and then it would be 4 am and you had been reading about weird candy for six hours

Skimmed the Geese article. It seems times have changed, so I'd like to announce that we'll no longer be sending physical press kits with 8x10 b&w glossies of us by snail mail. Probably no more cassettes with typewritten letters to music critics either.
