but jokes aside, how can you make a post about misunderstood characters in the lotr with thorin as the cover photo but not discuss him lol i think he's misunderstood in a way that the goldsickness was out of his control. and in the book, he hardly has any moments when he was being an asshole

Hoarding is widely accepted as a mental illness. Like i am especially increasingly annoyed/concerned by this whole trend wherein of thorin being under dragonsickness/goldsickness and the fandom's approach towards that is to somehow dominate his irrationality or depraved behavior to whip him into normalcy somehow?? as what the usual narrative goes

It’s probably a mix of the two, I am a definite believer that they all have Smaug-esque goldsickness now that they have accumulated that much capital but there’s also no ethical way to become a billionaire either
