It's mostly just Goodhearts Law really. Search got worse because what metrics correlated with being a good site got gamed with SEO making them no longer work as a way to distinguish quality.

What he means is he feels like there used to be places you could go and only see white people. Now, we only have Trump rallies for that.

Lurking in the world of benchmarks for AI's are whole bunch of issues. AIs that know the answers to the Questions because their training data included it, or because it was on the internet and they searched for it. Goodhearts Law is at work.
