The Irish Franciscans are withdrawing from a historic Gorbals parish this Easter, ending a presence in the community that dates back to 1866. Three priests will depart the John Duns Scotus chapel on Ballater Street, with pastoral care of the parish transferring back to the Archdiocese of Glasgow. The departure, announced during mass last weekend, is a result of declining numbers within the Catholic order.

Can you please explain what "tenement" means in the Glaswegian context? In the US, it meant cheap, crowded housing for poor people, usually with little architectural detail. That clearly doesn't apply to the facade here, although I think I recall references to clearing the tenement in the Gorbals.
