(Please remember, yellow is NOT part of the design, it is a legal requirement.)

The choice of location is to mark the UK's largest operator, Govia Thameslink services, coming back under public control at the end of this month.

Dates for further transfer of rail services into public ownership are known:

+ Greater Anglia - 12 Oct 2025,

+ West Midlands Trains - 1 Feb 2026

+ Govia Thameslink Railway - 31 May 2026

After this, 8 out of 10 passenger journeys the DfT is responsible for will be under public ownership.

Today, Govia Thameslink Railway enters public ownership.

GTR – which includes Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express – will now be run for the benefit of passengers, not private profit.

West Midlands Trains services will transfer to public ownership on 1 February 2026 and Govia Thameslink Railway’s services on 31 May 2026. Chiltern Railways and Great Western Railways (GWR) services will then be the next to transfer.

Thousands of my constituents use trains each day for work and leisure.

I had such an interesting visit to the GTR control room. From why some trains have no wifi to improvement plans for future, it was useful to discuss issues constituents have raised with me about services.

Next up will be Govia Thameslink Railway, due on 31st May. This is a very big one, covering Southern Railways, Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Great Northern.

It also covers all my local train services, so I'm very much looking forward to it!

The UK government renationalized Govia Thameslink today, bringing public operations back to the largest railway in the country.

The full renationalization program of the UK’s railways into the new GBR will be complete by the end of next year.
