Just in: it's "Time" to build your own darkroom....... "Gralab Darkroom Timer Model 300," I mean! 😂
Gralab Darkroom Timer Model 300
It seems that Gralab calls every timer the "Model 300," because this Model 300 is clearly not the classic all-black Model 300. It's smaller, for one, with a grey plastic shell and a moulded-in carry h...

Just in: Do you like beige plastic cases, old computer switches with cryptic labels, and multisegment LED displays? Of course you do, I've just described 90% of this website's userbase. Now, if you're also looking for a darkroom timer, we've got just the thing for you.
Gralab Darkroom Timer Model 520
The Gralab Model 520 is a digital timer with an off-white plastic housing, big, fun-to-push buttons and a red LED display. Looks and feels like an old Amiga accessory, works like a darkroom timer: for...

A small #MenderRevealParty win for Saturday night tinkering:

Opened my grandfathers Ricoh Diacord up to diagnose a problem with the aperture dial. It was an easy fix! Little light cleaning too, and it’s working again. Confirmed via instax test!

I have many older cameras and mechanical devices, but for electrical devices I use regularly I think:

This Dual 1225 turntable (from ~73?) sitting on the shelf above my work computer, and my Omega D-2 (c. 60s-70s). (The gralab 168 is decades older too, though!).

Engineer: "Hey boss, we built the new smaller, grey, plastic timer to supplement our larger, black, metal Model 300. What should we call it?"
Boss: "Model 300"
Engineer: "But how will people tell them apart?"
Boss: [golfs]

Good news! My detailed safelight shows that my safelight setup is good to go. The A strip is with safelight exposure after being exposed. B is before being exposed. I see no gradations or fogging around the border. The exposures are as close as I can get with an old GraLab at 1 second.

gralab timer 😭

I've always used a GraLab darkroom timer with glow-in-the-dark numbering. Hit it with a flashlight before unloading film holders and faint glow will be visible for development times up to 20 minutes.

Cool! Probably capacitors. I have an old school Time-O-Lite and a GraLab 300. I figured even if this is a little off it’s at least repeatable. 🤷‍♂️

I think k I have $30-35 in it including all the replacement electronics

DOH!

I completely forgot my kitchen timer has a glow-in-the-dark face

of that there were 3 aristo cold lights, one was the VC head, a metrolux timer, about a half dozen Gralab 300s, 500 series also. 2 Thomas duplexes. Kodak process therm, densitometer. a lot of ss lab ware. I had a Gravity Works archival film washer also.

I still use an old GraLab timer, so my timings aren't precise, but they're good enough for my purposes.
October 28, 2025 at 10:05 PM
yup, but its still a big step up on using a regular old Gralab: "OK, gotta do that last exposure again... wait... how many seconds was I doing?!?? was it 10????.... shit."🥶😅🤦‍♂️
