A nice article on pronouns in a Grassfields Bantu language - no gender, but fine-grained distinctions in grouping event participants incl some "compound pronouns" #linguistics
The Babanki pronoun system
Pronominal systems of Grassfields Bantu languages stand out in a cross-linguistic perspective by their high degree of referential precision when it comes to specifying the internal composition of grou...

i hear the prayers of the faithful, and of the small creatures that live in the grassfields. i ask my professor how i might best answer them. "we're studying the beatitudes today, my child" replies he. scoffing, i smite him with a thunderbolt. now there won't "be" any more "attitude", will there?

Fifty-five inches tall. Cotton, burlap, glass beads, twine, leather, and wood, shaped into an elephant's head with huge fan ears. In Cameroon's Grassfields, elephants signaled power and leadership. Worn at funerals and coronations.

Not many grassfields in Greenland.
Mostly lumpy mosscovered lava there.

In Greenland it is easier.
One bulldozer scraping the ice and you can land a Gripen for refueling and rearming.

'kola' is also a basic vocabulary item in the typical language of the Cameroon Grassfields (and it grows well there too, just past the eastern border of this map) - in Kom, ibi [ībi᷇], pl. tɨbi [tɨ̄bi᷇]; proto-Grassfields likely has a word *-bɪ́(̀ )

(Repost) Hanafuda card designs that I made as palette examples. They originally got rejected because "they didn't use the colors well enough". #PixelArt #ドット絵

True, and I'm told the plane can land on the grassfields there too.

View from the Manang plateau in Nepal. Love the blue color of the river in combination with the rockformations and dried vegetation. And the simple housing in the background.

I originally made those for a palette example on Lospec but they rejected it for no apparent reason. I hope you'll enjoy those more than they did

in the Cameroon Grassfields, the word for "white/foreigner" often involves the term "red", for example wul ɨ baŋnɨ "red person" in Kom. "red" encompasses any reddish or light colors that are *not* white and there is a separate word for "white", but one would not use that word for people

“The notion of a disemboweled or eviscerated historical consciousness is a metaphor…that has been produced indigenously [in the Cameroon Grassfields] in response to the traumatic conditions of slavery” (Argenti, 50)

West & North Cameroon. Both the Grassfields and the Mandara Mountains. It’s lush and green and cool and if you’re a mountain person it’s heaven.

Getting this Biba exhibition at the Fashion & Textile Museum.
