I had never seen a salamander in the wild until this past weekend! I moved the Blue-spotted Salamander into the grasses using some leaves and a stick, and not touching with my hands (salamanders have very sensitive skin and oils/lotions can harm them.)

Wild Blue Mistflower below some trees in our upper meadow this afternoon. The fragrance is heavenly baby powder.

I let our meadows go from July to September to keep them from frying in the unusually extreme heat. Needed the tall grasses to protect the meadow.

Impala (Aepyceros melampus): This species of Antelope is native to eastern & southern Africa. Mainly active during the day they like to graze on nutritious grasses but can browse on a variety of vegetation. Thank you Charlotte Blanchet for sharing this beautiful image of an Impala taken in Botswana.

It's also true for a lot of prairie grasses. Except for the poison.

Grasses are WAY more into arson.

Interestingly, grass is actually a fair bit older than that! The oldest known grasses (so far) are from roughly 110 or 113 million years ago, in the middle Cretaceous, though they don't get really common until around 40 million years ago.
My favourite grasshopper fact: Grasshoppers first appeared on the planet 250 million years ago.

Grass did not appear on the planet until 40 million years ago.

Imagine it: 210 million years, hopping around on any random surface you can find, waiting for the grass that will make you truly yourself.
