AB has declared #raptors as today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme. Traveling in Asia a bit this last year allowed me to meet several new raptor friends, which delighted me! I love the crest on the changeable hawk-eagle. I saw this streaked raptor at Yala National Park in Sri Lanka. The park is in the southwest corner of the country and is well worth a visit. This brahminy kite was also seen in Yala National Park. I adored this elegant looking bird with its chestnut wings and body and its snow white head. This particular one was trying (unsuccessfully) to steal an eel from a black-headed ibis. Also in Yala, I didn’t get a particular good shot of this guy, but what a beautiful bird. We first saw it standing in some shallow water. Then it flew up to this perch. I saw dozens of these beautiful black kites in coastal Japan. Just stunning.
