#GreenMarkets
Showing up at Saturday greenmarkets all across the country and asking vendors if they've "got any lung meat" in a voice that sounds like a skillet falling down a flight of stairs.

“Citizens can help by buying from farmers’ markets that source locally & equitably; supporting CSAs (community supported ag. programs) run by worker-led farms; purchasing from local small markets & family-owned restaurants; & choosing produce from farms that treat workers w/dignity.” #WeFeedYou
“Immigrant farmers, food workers, and vendors are a critical part of our food system. Here’s how to help them here in LA and nationwide.” civileats.com/2025/07/22/o... #WeFeedYou

Barry Benepe was a true pioneer of urban life. As the founder of NYC’s Greenmarkets, he transformed how we eat, gather, and thrive. Sending my condolences to his family, including former Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, and everyone mourning his loss.

Come along with me to stop by some fantastic greenmarkets in Brooklyn and then knock on some doors.

Always a blast to be out and about chatting with New Yorkers — even in the rain!

Again just do Universal SNAP, everyone gets a debit card for groceries and greenmarkets that refills every month- hell you’d save money on the red tape and admin costs, send it via the post office

Don’t tell anyone, but that cone cabbage that’s so hot in London is in NYC Greenmarkets.

You could tie it into local municipal efforts to support local agriculture, there are allready programs where SNAP dollars go further that greenmarkets, if we’re doing municipal groceries why not prioritize local sources etc etc

NYC has entered the stage of late capitalist grift where we need to rely on generous rich benefactors in order to have,,,, recycling
Anonymous donor saves compost collection at NYC greenmarkets, staving off mayor's cuts
It's the season of giving, and one anonymous benefactor bought New Yorkers six more months of compost collection at farmers markets.

Today we mourn the loss of one of our founders, Barry Benepe, and we celebrate his legacy:

"In 1966, he helped organize a protest to close Central Park to automobile traffic on Sundays in the summer."

52 years later, the park went car-free every day, all year long.
