Our day tour in Sussex a couple of days went very well, with all butterfly target species seen, plus bonuses - including an Adder and Adonis Blue. Here's a few pics from guest Tony & guide Terry.

We'll be back out in Sussex next week with a second group, hopefully for more great wildlife!

Fascinating plants. And larval host plants to numerous butterflies, such as the False Apollo and Cretan Festoon, which we will shortly see in Greece with our groups.

It is nice to look back sometimes. This quartet of images come from 2014 & the launch year of our exclusive butterfly tour of the Eastern French Pyrenees. We can't wait to get back there with our guests again! 🦋

Names on photos, other than the first, which is the unmistakable Violet Copper.

Anyone else remember drinking Diamond White in the 90s?!

🦋 There’s more to a butterfly than the butterfly!

On Greenwings holidays, our guides look beyond the adults to find caterpillars, food plants and other life stages, revealing more about their ecology to our guests.

During the weekend we were saddened to learn that Tristan Lafranchis has passed away & our sincere condolences go out to his family & friends. He was an exceptional naturalist & tour leader. In the early years he believed in us & helped launch Greenwings - we'll always be grateful to him for that.

How does 93 butterfly species in a day sound? And we don't mean South America, but Turkey...

Adult butterflies are beautiful, but we believe in studying & showing the ecology of species on our tours too. It's possible to find 3 stages of life cycle on our Swallowtail trips with @patrickbarkham.bsky.social

Eggs on the larval host plant of Milk Parsley for example. As well as the 🐛 itself!

Just 4 of 19 orchid species the Greenwings Rhodes tour were privileged to see on our first full day. Ophrys regis-ferdinandii, Ophrys calypsus, Serapias vomeracea and Ophrys rhodia. #orchid

Which came first? The butterfly or the egg?

Life cycle of the British Swallowtail (Papilio machaon ssp. britannicus.

We often find up to 3 stages on our Norfolk Broads trips with @patrickbarkham.bsky.social.
