#Grexit
It’s funny to remember that the term “Brexit” was basically just a riff on “Grexit”

Remember Frexit, Grexit, Irexit and all the other *exits the baying Brexiters assured us would be coming along within weeks or months of Brexit?

Well, that's one more thing they literally couldn't have been more wrong about.

Support for EU membership is now at record levels.

Why was Greece's proposed withdrawal from the Euro-zone called Grexit when it should have been called Greece-alighting?

Το κοινωνικό Grexit είναι πολύ βαθύτερο από το οικονομικό Grexit που αποτρέψαμε και πολύ πιο δύσκολο να αντιμετωπιστεί.

They were part of the EU, until they withdrew in 1985. Grexit, if you will.

Still mad we never got to see Yanis Varousfakis's Grexit New Drachma plan enacted when he was Greek finance minister. He had been Valve's in-house economist just a couple years before

Nýjasta hugtakið í vinnuni er grexit sem er hugtak yfir aðskilnaðarhreyfinguna í gravarvoginum.

Sem er ein asnalegasta hreyfingin sem ég veit um.

It took me until 2018 not to hear it in the French accent I first heard it spoken in. 'Will Grexit be followed by Brexit? *gallic shrug, pause for laughter* It's possible.'

Remember Frexit, Grexit? All lies. No clamouring to leave the EU but instead a clamouring to join.
Brexit was a lesson to other countries not to be so stupid!

Yet another Brexit prediction turns to dust
The europhobes said if we left the EU, other countries would follow. Wrong. In fact, the opposite has happened – nations are now clamouring to get in

Main Brexit win as far as I'm concerned is that none of the far-right populist parties in Europe that were calling for Frexit, Dexit, Grexit, Nexit etc are any longer doing so. It's such an obvious catastrophe that it's scared off even the charlatans...

I can remember the articles about "Grexit" and Greece leaving the EU, which looked likely for a while

and how they laughed about there being a remote possibility of a "Brexit" where the UK would leave the EU

and how that would be crazy so it would never happen 😅

first time I ever heard the term

I am glad to see this Moscovici quote, though. We still don’t talk enough about how wildly irresponsible it was for Jeroen Dijsselbloem & Wolfgang Schäuble to float Grexit as a legitimate option during the height of the eurozone crisis

It's a Festivus miracle, a new blog post! My airing of grievances this year pertain to some academics' widely-held wrong beliefs, including the disparagement of “more of a comment than a question,” GRExit, “leaving academia,” and more! getsyeducated.substack.com/p/the-ignora...

Best thing that could have happened for the Euro would have been for Greece to exit. Greece lied about data to join and, as we see since Russia invaded Ukraine, is run by a handful of shipping oligarchs. Grexit would have set a floor on acceptable behavior. Currently, there is no such floor...
