Groton’s Parks director said Connecticut DEEP has forwarded the town’s Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program (ORLP) application to the National Park Service. The $2.4 million request for renovations to Peconic Plains Park requires a 50% local match and includes a site visit scheduled for the following day.

City staff and the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut outlined mechanics for a roughly $3.8 million bequest to Groton that will be held as a designated fund; the city expects an annual spendable dividend (about 4% of fund value) to be used for recreation, training and tuition assistance.

After bids and engineering review, the council approved increasing contingency funding for the Spicer House rowing barn roof and siding work to $200,000 (amendment passed 7–1) to allow full decking replacement if necessary; base bids and an earlier grant partially fund the work.

Town officials and residents marked the start of a nearly $4 million renovation of Sutton Park in Groton, which will add a renovated skate park, new restroom, multi-use path, playground and second basketball court; Mayor Juliet Parker said a ribbon-cutting is expected in about a year.
