This actually seems to be largely because way more groundballs back then were spotted where the outfielder picked them up, instead of where they left the infield. See groundball hits, 2017 vs 2026

K/BB *ratio* improved 2.35 (NYM) to 2.87 (TB). Of course .232 BABIP isn't sustainable, *but* I do believe in lower BABIP due to pitch mix change (nixing groundball approach) and better D in Tampa. Most dramatic is the change in WHIP: 1.48 to 1.01. Fastball vert & velo improved. They made him better.
