Among that I'm particularly mourning the 2 fillets of Kodiak Groundfish I brought back with me from my last trip, and the gallon of backyard blackberries I never got around to using.

Council members ask whether groundfish exclusion area can be paused after restoration delays
Council members raised procedural and legal questions about a groundfish exclusion area established under Amendment 34 that has not yet hosted the planned restoration activities; staff and general counsel said the rule is final and that rescission or suspension would require formal future action and coordination with NMFS.

Robin Alden's rebuttal to NOAA's "self-congratulatory press release" on 50 years of fisheries management.

Worth listening when someone can reflect critically on 50 years of something.

Self-congratulation won’t help Maine’s future fishermen - Island Institute
… if groundfish rebound, it’s unlikely that the small-scale owner-operators in the lobster fishery who would like to diversify will be able to buy into the system.

Interesting. Canada's groundfish fleet has been 100% EM since April of 2020 (this includes the offshore trawl fleet) they introduced EM to the longline fishery in 2007 i think - prior to that, human observers only did 10% trip coverage. There was a lot of resistance to it by the operators at first.

So, for example, we have enormously complex regulation and monitoring of groundfish factory trawlers on the Bering Sea fishing for pollock and yellowfin sole. But it is at the demand of crab, halibut, and salmon fishermen who see those stocks burned up a bycatch by trawlers in other fisheries.
