Brighton charging £18 for some grass cuttings from Amex pitch
**No need to check the date. It is not April 1st _quite_ yet. Brighton & Hove Albion really are charging supporters £18 for some dead grass cuttings left behind when the Amex Stadium pitch is cut.** Posting on Twitter, the club’s official account proudly revealed: “As part of #GroundsWeek, we’re giving Albion fans the chance to own a small piece of the Amex Stadium pitch. Our limited edition coasters are filled with recycled grass from our home!” > 198) Charging supporters £18 (EIGHTEEN POUNDS) for a coaster with some discaeded grass cuttings from the Amex pitch #BHAFC pic.twitter.com/1g2pPwgH85 > > — We Are Brighton (@wearebrighton) March 19, 2025 Click through the link and you will be taken to the online shop, where one of these coasters can be yours. For £18. Eighteen. Great. British. Pounds. Some of the replies to the Twitter post are absolutely magnificent. Starting with: “All football clubs want to do is squeeze every last penny out of their fans. They think just because you are a supporter, you will keep buying things.” “And if you needed proof that the target fan demographic is middle class rugby fans – here it is.” Wonder if Joe Marler has got his yet? One fan launched into a magnificent tirade: “If anyone buys these then they’ve got more money than sense. Grass cuttings which could’ve come from a garden or a park or a verge on the A27 passed off as being from the Amex pitch, in a coaster, for £18…. are you taking the piss?” A personal favourite though was: “Transfer budget must be really low for the summer.” Which also made me think Brighton have missed a trick in how they marketed the £18 coaster with grass cuttings from the Amex Stadium pitch. Why play the recyclability card when they could have gone with _Buy 1,388,888 of these things Albion fans and we can buy anotherMatt O’Riley!_ Or how about _Amex Stadium grass cuttings in a coaster for less than a quarter the price of a £3.50 bag of Starburst!_ I cannot wait to see what they and flog us next. Even if this has rather scuppered the April Fool’s Day article about the Albion charging fans £1,456 for a lock of hair from the head of Fabian Hurzeler. __ Share __ Tweet __ Pin it __ Share __ Share __ Share
