Oh hey I missed the exact day but now it's officially taken GRRM longer to write The Winds of Winter than it did to write the other five books combined.
The first book, A Game of Thrones, was published in August 1996. The most recent book, A Dance With Dragons, was published in July 2011. There are just under 15 years between the two publications dates.
